Foresight Dictionary continuous learning

Definition

Continuous learning is the ongoing, voluntary, and self-motivated pursuit of knowledge and skill development throughout one’s life, both personally and professionally. It involves constantly acquiring new skills, knowledge, and competencies to adapt to changing environments and improve one’s capabilities.

Example

Google

The tech company Google implements a continuous learning culture through its “20% time” policy, where employees are encouraged to spend 20% of their work time on projects that interest them and could benefit the company. This policy has led to innovations like Gmail and Google News.

Tools

Consider any of the open source platforms and MOOCS such as EdX.

Futures skills and mindsets can be learned via workshops on this site, coaching for leaders and the content on the Futures Alchemy Collaborative on Patreon.

Ask yourself

  • What new skills or knowledge would benefit me in my current role or future aspirations?
  • How can I create a personal learning plan that aligns with my goals?
  • What resources (online courses, books, mentors) are available to support my learning journey?
  • How can I apply what I’m learning to my daily life or work?
  • What barriers might prevent me from engaging in continuous learning, and how can I overcome them?
